Dallas Uplighting Review Article by Jim Weisz of Discovery DJ & Lighting

As a writer for Mobile Beat DJ magazine for the last 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of reviewing a lot of DJ & lighting products over the years. Last year I was given the task of reviewing new LED uplights from Chauvet lighting. I had been offering uplighting in Dallas for about a year at the time, so I was excited to get my hands on the latest LED uplighting technology from Chauvet.

The light I was given to review was the Chauvet SlimPar Pro Tri LED light. The SlimPar Pro features 18 tri color lights, which means the light is mixed before the bulb. What is the significance of where the light is mixed? When the light is mixed before the bulb, it virtually eliminates the effects of multi-colored shadows that usually effects LED uplights. They are also known to be excellent for color mixing.

I’m going to include the article below, but the spoiler is I loved the lights so much that I bought an entire set for my Dallas Wedding Uplighting company. After buying my original set, I still loved them so much I bought more! More than a year later, they are still among the top LED uplighting fixtures available on the market today…and we have them! Here’s another article on our blog about how to choose DFW decor lighting and shows where our lights rank.

Here’s the article as it appeared in the September 2011 issue of Mobile Beat magazine.

Dallas Museum of Art Wedding DJ by Discovery DJs

I’ve provided DJ services for quite a few Dallas weddings, so I’ve seen my fair share of speeches & toasts. However, Stephen’s brother Mark gave one of the best toasts I have ever heard in the 12+ years I have been DJing weddings. It was a great blend of funny and serious, and you could tell he was speaking from the heart. I’m sure Stephen, Diana and their guests will remember that for quite a long time.

Stephen & Diana pretty much gave me free reign for what to play–the only thing they requested was some Texas Country, which was played while the guests were eating cake & socializing. Once dinner was done and everyone had a chance to socialize for a bit, I picked it up with some newer music followed by a set of 90’s music. Stephen & Diana’s crowd really got into some great 90’s hits I played, such as It’s Tricky by Run DMC and Jump On It by Sir Mix A Lot.

Being Aggies, Stephen & Diana had asked me to play the Aggie War Hymn near the end of the night. All the Aggie alumni got out on the dance floor for the fight song…as you can see from the big group picture below, there were a lot of Aggies in attendance!

Special thanks to Dallas wedding planner Kathie Seeley of Grand Events for doing a great job coordinating everything and for being so great to work with. I have had the pleasure of working with Kathie several times and I know everything will run very smoothly when Kathie has planned the wedding.

I would also like to extend a special thanks to Dallas wedding photographer Carter Rose of F8 Studio. He was also great to work with and was kind enough to provide the pictures below.

Reflections on Spring Creek Plano Wedding DJ by Discovery DJ & Lighting – 7/23/11

We’ve provided DJ services a few times at Reflections but this was our first time handling just about everything for the ceremony & reception. We provided a PA system for several instruments, including a guitar and piano, as well as microphones for singing for the ceremony in the chapel. Then Jim served as DJ and master of ceremonies for the reception.

In addition, Joaquin & Ashley also took some of our suggestions for a photobooth company (Texas Photobooth) and videographer (Memories Films). And while we didn’t refer them to their photographers, Jeremy & Amber from Life As Art, they are always at the top of our referral list. Combine all of that with how great Reflections is, this wedding was a true pleasure to be apart of!

The mood for the night was set when one of the youngest guests showed off his moves to Beat It by Michael Jackson. Just about every guest gathered around the dance floor to see him in action (and LAA got a great shot of it–see below). That got everyone pumped up and the dance floor was packed for the rest of the night!
