Dallas DJ at Four Seasons Wedding Las Colinas Irving Texas

Jay and Maiko–seriously two of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The best example that shows how kind they are is the invitation I received for the wedding in the mail. In over 12 years of providing DJ and master of ceremonies for wedding receptions, I have never received an invitation to a wedding I was the DJ for. So, I wasn’t sure what to do with since of course I would be at the wedding!

I ended up emailing Jay & Maiko and let them know that if they were sending an invitation to include me in their meal count that I don’t eat at weddings. They were so nice and said they would like to include me so I could take a break and eat something. Then, after the wedding, they also sent a card with a gift for our new baby that my wife had just a couple weeks before the wedding!

I truly appreciated all their thoughtfulness and really loved working with them on planning their wedding. We had a lot of fun in our meetings–especially the final planning meeting. At that meeting, we go over name pronunciations and these were among the hardest I had ever encountered! Jay even let me know how his name is often mispronounced and would understand if I had a hard time with it. I assured him I would get it right when I introduced them at their reception.

The entire week of the wedding, I practiced the introductions more than I normally do. I was practicing a couple times each day and could practically do the introductions in my sleep! When the big moment came, I’m proud to say I got every name right–all 20+ people I introduced! I make a point of pronouncing names correctly, and since this was by far my most challenging introductions, I was very happy with the result. Several of the members of the wedding party even thanked me for saying their name right!

After the introductions and dinner, we got right into the dancing. Jay & Maiko and their guests packed the dance floor for just about every song I played from the first to the last. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the guests, from the youngest to the oldest, out on the dance floor. It truly was a memorable night for everyone!

I was fortunate to work with a great team of vendors. It was my first time to work with Tamara at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas and she was absolutely amazing! In addition, Lyly from Lyly Photography was a pleasure to work with. Not only was she great to work with at the wedding, but she was so nice after the wedding to share some pictures with me (below), which I couldn’t have been more impressed with!

Wedding Reception DJ at Dallas Petroleum Club by Discovery DJ & Lighting

Ryan & Heather’s reception on October 8, 2011 took place at a great venue overlooking the city of Dallas–the Dallas Petroleum Club. While the room presented some challenges from a sound standpoint, it was such a cool venue and I was able to work through the challenges as far as power and sound went.

When I meet with a couple for the first time, I will usually ask if they like to dance and if they think they’ll dance at their wedding. It really does help encourage guests to dance when the bride & groom dance. Well, Ryan & Heather did a great job with that, as they were out dancing almost the whole night! Not only were Ryan & Heather out there dancing, but most of their guests were too! The crowd was a lot of fun and danced to both new & old music to help celebrate Ryan & Heather’s wedding.

I always enjoy working at new venues and with new vendors. I had never been to the Petroleum Club, so it was great to get to see it and work with the staff there (they were excellent to work with). In addition, I also worked with Christopher & Angela from Lucky Pro Photography. I truly believe having a good group of vendors who communicate well and work together can help make the wedding a success. Well, Christopher and Angela were awesome to work with! Not only that, they took some amazing pictures too! They were kind enough to share the pictures with me, so I will post them below. I hope to work with them again sometime soon!

Discovery DJ & Lighting Wedding Review

Thank you to Diana Franke for the great review on Wedding Wire! We provided DJ services for her wedding on 10/22/11 at the DMA in Dallas.

Text from review

Jim was really great to work with! We knew from the first meeting that he would be great to work with because he is easy going, personable, professional and has the experence in DJing.

He had great suggestions so we felt completely confident in giving Jim free reign for what to play. We knew that he would get the crowd dancing and keep them dancing throughout the night!

Thanks for a great night! I would highly recommend using Discovery DJ’s!

Dallas Museum of Art Wedding DJ by Discovery DJs

I’ve provided DJ services for quite a few Dallas weddings, so I’ve seen my fair share of speeches & toasts. However, Stephen’s brother Mark gave one of the best toasts I have ever heard in the 12+ years I have been DJing weddings. It was a great blend of funny and serious, and you could tell he was speaking from the heart. I’m sure Stephen, Diana and their guests will remember that for quite a long time.

Stephen & Diana pretty much gave me free reign for what to play–the only thing they requested was some Texas Country, which was played while the guests were eating cake & socializing. Once dinner was done and everyone had a chance to socialize for a bit, I picked it up with some newer music followed by a set of 90’s music. Stephen & Diana’s crowd really got into some great 90’s hits I played, such as It’s Tricky by Run DMC and Jump On It by Sir Mix A Lot.

Being Aggies, Stephen & Diana had asked me to play the Aggie War Hymn near the end of the night. All the Aggie alumni got out on the dance floor for the fight song…as you can see from the big group picture below, there were a lot of Aggies in attendance!

Special thanks to Dallas wedding planner Kathie Seeley of Grand Events for doing a great job coordinating everything and for being so great to work with. I have had the pleasure of working with Kathie several times and I know everything will run very smoothly when Kathie has planned the wedding.

I would also like to extend a special thanks to Dallas wedding photographer Carter Rose of F8 Studio. He was also great to work with and was kind enough to provide the pictures below.

Dinner music for your Dallas wedding reception

I’m someone who when I say I like all types of music, I really do like all types of music…ok, almost all types–I can think of a few I don’t like. However, one of my favorite genres of music is the type of music I often play for cocktail hour and dinner at my wedding receptions. It consists of soft/light rock, singer-songwriter, and jazzy/lounge type music. Basically, easy to listen to, but not boring, music.>There are some DJs who are content to just pop in a CD of Jazz and hit play, or shuffle between some Sinatra and other adult standards. But I think the cocktail & dinner music can set the mood for the night, so I spend a lot of time planning the music for those times.

As with all aspects of the music that is played, I allow my clients to choose as much or as little of the music. Some of my clients just give me some artists & song titles to play. Others choose a whole list of music. Then I also have couples who give me total freedom and complete control over the cocktail & dinner music. Whatever each couple decides, I spend just as much time programming and planning the cocktail and dinner music as I do the dancing music.

Will the dinner music make or break your wedding? Probably not. But if I can get your guest’s toes tapping even before we’ve started dancing, it starts the process of getting them in the mood to dance. And that will help encourage a packed dance floor later in the evening.

Arlington Hall Wedding DJ in Dallas Texas

When Sara and I talked for the first time, she told me about the vision she had for her wedding. Sara & Austin were planning an outdoor ceremony followed by a champagne brunch at Arlington Hall. She wanted rat pack type music, with some fun dancing songs that would be go well with the rat pack style. Being a big fan of that type of music myself, I was very excited when they chose to have me DJ their wedding.

When we met for their final planning session, we talked about their music. They gave me a small request list and said they trusted my judgement. So they wanted to give me the freedom to play whatever I thought would best fit with what they were wanting to do. They weren’t expecting a lot of dancing, since it was a morning/early afternoon wedding, but still wanted some fun, upbeat music.

The weather was perfect for the outdoor ceremony at Arlington Hall. After the ceremony, the guests had some time for cocktails and then we did introductions and the special dances. Once everyone was done eating, I shifted gears to more upbeat music to see if anyone would dance. I found out pretty quickly their friends & family really liked that music, as they kept the dance floor pretty full from the first song to the last one!

Dallas Wedding DJ review on Wedding Wire

Thank you to Lynn & Cassie for the great review!

Text of review left on for Dallas Wedding DJ Discovery DJs:
One of my favorite vendors I worked with during my wedding!!! Not only does Jim’s website provide the convenience I needed during planning with lists of music, but also Jim’s professional nature and knowledge made this the easiest part of our big day. Jim met with me several times before our actual ceremony and made sure everything was just as I had envisioned. He is a true professional and was a pleasure to work with. He did my ceremony music, reception music, and lighting. I would not have changed a single thing! My husband and I both recommend him to anyone having an event!!
