McKinney Cotton Mill Wedding DJ & Uplighting

Jenny contacted me about 6 weeks before her upcoming wedding looking for a DJ & master of ceremonies. After exchanging a few emails, we set up a time to meet. Mark & Jenny were very easy going and gave me a ton of great info about what they were looking for. Shortly after meeting, they let me know they wanted to reserve my services, so we quickly put things in motion since the wedding was coming up so quickly.

Many of my clients book 6-12 months before their wedding, but I have had bookings as little as 2 weeks before a wedding. So, while getting handling all the planning in 6 weeks is a bit tight, we were still able to get everything done in plenty of time.

The ceremony took place inside the Cotton Mill immediately prior to the reception. Once the ceremony was done, the guests had cocktails while the room was flipped for the reception. When everything was ready, we did the introductions followed by the first dance and a group picture. I have seen pictures like this before, but had never had one done at a wedding I was DJing. So it was cool getting to see that and how the picture turned out.

After dinner, the dance floor officially opened to a great crowd of dancers. Other than a quick break for the cake, the dance floor was very full throughout the evening. This was a fun crowd who danced to just about everything I played.

This was our first time working at the Cotton Mill with Tina and everything went smoothly. This was also our first time working with photographer Celina Gomez. I really enjoyed working with Celina and she was kind enough to share some pictures from the wedding with me. I thought they turned out great and look forward to working with Celina again!

Wedding Timeline for Dallas Wedding Reception

Every wedding that we provide DJ & master of ceremonies for receives a custom timeline outlining their entire reception. Many people are surprised that we do this, but we’re more than just a DJ. As your master of ceremonies, it is important to know what is happening and when it is happening. It is also crucial to make sure all your other vendors know when everything is happening too. That’s why all of our clients get a timeline like the one below before their wedding. Clients are welcome to share it with other vendors as well as anyone else who may need to know the schedule. We also bring extra copies with us for all the vendors too.

Having a good flow to your reception is very important. If your guests are sitting around too long after dinner and get bored, they may leave. Or if too many things are crammed together, they may feel like it is rushed. That’s where my 12 years of experience as a wedding DJ & master of ceremonies really helps. I coordinate with whoever is in charge at the venue or your caterer as well as your photographer and other vendors to make sure we’re all on the same page. I also let them know at least a few minutes before I announce anything to make sure they are prepared.

So how is the timeline created? If you choose to have me as the DJ for your Dallas area wedding, we have a planning meeting where we create your timeline together. Then I type it up and send it to you for review before it is finalized.

Here is the final timeline from a wedding Discovery provided DJ & master of ceremonies services for. It took place in early 2012 at the Old Red Museum in Dallas.

Dallas DJ at Four Seasons Wedding Las Colinas Irving Texas

Jay and Maiko–seriously two of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The best example that shows how kind they are is the invitation I received for the wedding in the mail. In over 12 years of providing DJ and master of ceremonies for wedding receptions, I have never received an invitation to a wedding I was the DJ for. So, I wasn’t sure what to do with since of course I would be at the wedding!

I ended up emailing Jay & Maiko and let them know that if they were sending an invitation to include me in their meal count that I don’t eat at weddings. They were so nice and said they would like to include me so I could take a break and eat something. Then, after the wedding, they also sent a card with a gift for our new baby that my wife had just a couple weeks before the wedding!

I truly appreciated all their thoughtfulness and really loved working with them on planning their wedding. We had a lot of fun in our meetings–especially the final planning meeting. At that meeting, we go over name pronunciations and these were among the hardest I had ever encountered! Jay even let me know how his name is often mispronounced and would understand if I had a hard time with it. I assured him I would get it right when I introduced them at their reception.

The entire week of the wedding, I practiced the introductions more than I normally do. I was practicing a couple times each day and could practically do the introductions in my sleep! When the big moment came, I’m proud to say I got every name right–all 20+ people I introduced! I make a point of pronouncing names correctly, and since this was by far my most challenging introductions, I was very happy with the result. Several of the members of the wedding party even thanked me for saying their name right!

After the introductions and dinner, we got right into the dancing. Jay & Maiko and their guests packed the dance floor for just about every song I played from the first to the last. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the guests, from the youngest to the oldest, out on the dance floor. It truly was a memorable night for everyone!

I was fortunate to work with a great team of vendors. It was my first time to work with Tamara at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas and she was absolutely amazing! In addition, Lyly from Lyly Photography was a pleasure to work with. Not only was she great to work with at the wedding, but she was so nice after the wedding to share some pictures with me (below), which I couldn’t have been more impressed with!
